What is Northtek?

A 100% DIY participatory event!
YOU ARE THE PARTY and YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for the party,
and you're going to HAVE A DAMN GOOD TIME!

Check out ALL the information and links on this website to get acquainted with who and what you're getting involved with...
if you're not involved, you're not getting it!

Northtek is held on Crown Land which guarantees the people of Canada's right to a peaceful assembly.

This right is protected provided that
1) the gathering is not for profit
2) the land is treated with respect, and
3) no one limits or hinders the use of the land to anyone else who may want to use it.

Those rules are enforced both by the law and everyone who knows it is in their best interests to do so. It is strongly recommended that you understand this... unless you really like dealing with angry mobs.

Beyond that, we are some lucky Son's of the Queen Bitch to have this human right to live life to its fullest protected by the authority of Canadian law. Most countries have to fight with riot cops to have it for a week. So, use your freedom to your advantage!

Northtek is not organized by a central body of people.
In fact, the whole festival is an experiment in temporal autonomy. In Canada our teknivals started between friends who year after year tell more friends; the network expands, grows, mutates and explodes every year, bringing people from every corner of the planet into Canada's big backyard.

Northtek is free because celebration is a right of life, cultural growth should not be hindered by monetary systems, and all opportunities to create, give, learn, love and dance should be aspired to, appreciated and shared. Any opportunity to do this should be encouraged and fostered. There are ways to solve local and world problems with love, brains and brawn and not bucks, period.

Small groups and communities come together every year to make things happen, and the result is a mish-mash of diverse styles that you just cant find at most festivals you'd buy your way into spectatorship at.

This model only functions if everyone chips in! Not only will you be 100% responsible for your own survival the entire time out in the great Canadian wilderness, you ought to put in 200% effort so you've got that extra 100% of food, supplies, art, music, knowledge and fun to share and ensure that everyone has an over-the-top wicked experience.

If you would like to get involved, then rally some friends and dive into a project of your own devising (no one can stop you, you are free to do with this festival as you will). If you would like to be involved with an already existing project you'll need to do some legwork through the networks of people, websites, parties and projects to find em and ask em!

This site is a free collaboration webspace. It is here for you without banners, borders, branding or bullies. Use it and share it. It exists to give interested people in the community a medium to organize their projects.

Use this site like a chalkboard. Put up your projects, take care of them yourself, reach out to potential partners and make your idea happen. In the DIY spirit of many freetekno parties, this site is freely editable by anyone.
